Week #3


The U.S. Supreme Court is the highest judicial court in the United States of America. It performs in secrecy and solitary which follows the 200 year old constitution that safe guards liberty, preserves the union, and upholds the rule of law. The Supreme Court was established in 1789 by Article Three of the constitution. The court was originally made up of six justices who served on the Supreme Court until they had retired or died. As of now, the court has nine members active. The Supreme Court ultimately has all jurisdiction over all laws within the United States and is responsible for evaluating those laws. The first assemble was on February 1, 1790 in New York City. Due to transportation issues, the first meeting was postponed until the next day, the 2nd. The first meeting and other early meeting were based on setting up organizational procedures instead of actual cases. On August 3, 1791 was the first case involving a financial dispute with a farmer and a family the farmer owed debt to. The way Supreme Court Justices are nominated by the President of the United States and are accepted or denied by the U.S. Senate.
